Live @ the Lakefront kicks off 2009 season

Milwaukee’s Live @ the Lakefront summer festival will kick off its 2009 season on Wednesday, July 8, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Drive.

The Chicago-based Juli Wood Quartet will open the 2009 Live @ the Lakefront concert series with their classic jazz sound. Wood, a member of accomplished bands including The R&B Cadets and Paul Cebar and the Milwaukeeans, will bring her alto, tenor and baritone saxes and lead vocals together with partners Mike Schlick on drums, Jeff Hamann on bass, and Rob Block on keyboard and guitar.

"The Rotary Club of Milwaukee is proud to partner with Discovery World for a second season of Live @ the Lakefront at one of the most beautiful and energizing music venues in Milwaukee. The outdoor, lakeside location of the Rotary Amphitheater could not be better for a free summer concert series," said Dan Nelson Jr., co-chairman of Rotary’s Maritime Committee. "Milwaukee has a great music scene, and a Great Lake. With the LIVE @ the Lakefront concert series, we have an opportunity to create more free access to both for all Milwaukeeans."

The free eight-week concert series, featuring original jazz, latin, reggae, blue grass and more will take place every Wednesday in July and August at the outdoor Rotary Ampitheater at Discovery World. The ampitheater has 350 free seats available on a first-come, first-served basis, and guests are invited to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the concert as well. Bartolotta’s restaurant group will provide food and beverage services for LIVE @ the Lakefront, which will take place rain or shine. In addition to steak sandwiches, grilled brats and burgers, beer and wine will also be for sale, by the glass or bottle.
