Account Executive

BizTimes Media, Milwaukee’s leading locally owned news media company, is looking for a confident, self-motivated, and experienced account executive to sell print and online advertising, event sponsorships and other marketing services. An extensive knowledge of the Milwaukee market is preferred. The most competitive candidates will display a strong understanding of BizTimes Media’s unique brand of print and online readership. Prior media selling experience, particularly with online digital sales, is preferred. This is a terrific job for a highly motivated sales executive with hands-on sales experience.

The candidate will be responsible for advertising sales activities with new prospects, development of agency/client relations, preparing and presenting proposals, and closing business. Applicants should be confident, enthusiastic, self-disciplined and able to manage a high volume of activity.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 2-3 years of outside sales experience, and a track record of meeting/exceeding goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Handling a diverse range of advertising sales activities.
  • Calling and connecting with prospects to schedule in-person meetings.
  • Analyzing client objectives; preparing and presenting advertising proposals that match client’s objectives.
  • Developing agency and direct client relationships; building a solid client base.
  • Ability to effectively close business and perform necessary follow-up to the sale.
  • Attending community events, networking, etc.
Other Qualifications:
  • Candidates must possess initiative, be a quick study, organized, punctual, detail oriented, and able to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Candidates must have an understanding of print and digital media as it relates to branding and BtoB sales support.
  • Advanced time management skills within a deadline specific environment.

Administrative Assistant (full time)

BizTimes Media is looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working administrative assistant to join our award-winning team. This position will be responsible for providing a wide array of general administrative support from billing and A/R to circulation and database maintenance. This multi-talented person must be detail-oriented and able to prioritize, frequently performing several tasks at once. While teamwork is an important asset, the administrative assistant must also be able to initiate and complete projects independently, accurately and often under deadline pressure.


  • Maintain accounts receivable by generating client invoices and ensuring timeliness and accuracy of processing.
  • Open and distribute incoming mail; process outgoing mail and deliver to post office when necessary.
  • Prepare daily deposits and take them to the bank.
  • Review and reconcile reports and spreadsheets.
  • Serve as point person for the directories, handling client calls and emails.
  • Conduct research by phone and online.
  • Maintain company databases, compile reports and spreadsheets.
  • Process subscription requests.
  • Stock, maintain and purchase supplies.
  • Answer incoming calls and professionally respond to questions or route calls appropriately.
  • Welcome on-site visitors and announce the visitor to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with event set-up and other onsite event responsibilities – requiring some early mornings and evenings.
  • Perform sensitive and confidential tasks and participate in special projects as assigned by Director of Operations.


  • Highly proficient in PC based Microsoft Office. Particularly Word and Excel, with experience using and creating advanced formulas and mail merge.
  • Knowledge of Quick Books accounting software system preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental accounting transaction flows.
  • Ability to handle competing demands, take initiative and manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Efficient and organized with great attention to detail and excellent follow-through skills.  Should be proactive, able to self-manage, and highly self-motivated, yet not afraid to ask questions.
  • Exceptional analytical, written and oral communication skills; must be able to write clearly and informatively, as well as detect discrepancies and variances in wording, grammar, spelling and numbers.
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with all levels of internal and external clients and be comfortable building a rapport with different personalities.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to your own vehicle.
  • A minimum of 3 years related experience.

Graphic Designer (full time)

BizTimes Media is looking for a talented, positive and detail-oriented individual to help our fast-paced creative department. Qualified candidates must have excellent communication and multi-tasking skills, the ability to meet tight deadlines and the desire to make a creative impact on our publication and web site. Must be a great communicator and work well in a team environment with an interest in collaboration and a positive “can do” attitude.

Daily projects vary from creation of print and web ads; layout of pages in print publication; uploading artwork for e-newsletters; internal marketing materials ranging from the creation of promotional materials for new or existing projects to event programs and signage.


  • Experience with preparing files for print and working directly with printers.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate well with editorial, sales and marketing department personnel.


  • Degree in graphic design/communications (Bachelor’s or Associates) preferred.
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, etc).
