What was the smartest thing your company did in the past year?
“We re-evaluated what our ‘normal’ should be. QPS, like everyone else, cut costs but we also looked for ways that we could improve to reinvent ourselves. If you do what you’ve always done, you will get the same results. In 2009, the best decision we made was to redefine our focus and direction.”
What’s new at your company?
“QPS changed its name to QPS Employment Group, better reflecting what we do. We recently upgraded our software, allowing for us to give the highest level of service to our clients and candidates. Also, we are looking forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2010.”
Do you plan to hire any additional staff or make any significant capital investments in your company in the next year?
“We do plan on hiring in 2010 through existing branches as well as new market growth. We are also anticipating growth of 25 percent through hiring candidates for our client companies.”
What will be your company’s main challenges in the next year?
“Our main challenge will be increased costs, including unemployment and the unknown of the health care reform mandate to employers.”
What’s the hottest trend in your industry?
“Growth. With so many companies having depleted their workforce during the recession, more and more companies will need help hiring staff back. QPS has pending plans to acquire business and grow by about 20 new markets in 2010. The groundwork that we laid in 2009 should be paying off this next year.”
Do you have a business mantra?
“Work hard, play hard.”
From a business standpoint, who do you look up to?
“I look up to my entire staff, especially our executive team who has helped guide QPS through the toughest time in the history of our firm.”
What was the best advice you ever received?
“Hire the best people and treat them like family.”
What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you in your career?
“When I first started QPS, I was only 19 years old. I pretended to just be a sales rep when I called on prospects, to make them feel comfortable giving me their business.”
What do you like to do in your free time?
“In my spare time, I drive race cars professionally. In addition, I’m on the Board of Regents for Wisconsin Lutheran College.”
