A rising number of employers plan to add staff in the second quarter, according to the latest survey of more than 500 companies in Wisconsin and Illinois by QPS Employment Group, a Brookfield-based staffing and recruiting firm.
According to the survey, 34 percent of employers will add staff, while 59 percent will retain the same level of staffing and only 7 percent will decrease staff. By comparison, only 25 percent planned to increase staff in the first quarter.
Fifty-three percent expect their business to improve in the second quarter.
Mark Immekus, QPS executive vice president and chief sales officer, said, “QPS has experienced a 25.5 percent year over year increase in billable hours worked thus far through February of 2010. There is definitely more activity and we are seeing our customer base adding temporary workers.”
However, only 13 percent of the respondents believe the recession is over.
