Here's a chance for your company to 'Get Smarter'
Published August 4, 2009 - BizTimes Daily
In this economy, when virtually every company in southeastern Wisconsin is asking its staff to do more with less, successful businesses are finding ways to get the maximum production out of their people.
The BizTimes Get Smarter Workforce Training & Education Summit and Directory will provide business owners, top-level executives and human resource leaders with insights on how to utilize training and education to position their companies for success in a down economy.
The Get Smarter Summit will take place Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Milwaukee West in Wauwatosa. The keynote speaker of the Summit will be Dr. George Watts, a nationally recognized authority on leadership development and talent management.
A consultant and an author, Watts will explain how companies can unlock the highest potential out of their executive teams.
Watts helps CEOs with executive selection and building high-quality, consultative sales teams. He has assessed more than 5,000 "C Suite" executives. He speaks from personal experience, as he previously was the CEO of a $250 million outsourcing firm and the executive vice president of two large companies.
Watts graduated from the College of William and Mary with a doctorate in counseling psychology and a strong emphasis in assessment and organizational development. His latest book, "Becoming Your Own Business Coach," will be published later this year by Praeger Publishing. The book is about the power of self-development.
The Get Smarter Summit will be a breakfast presentation, followed by breakout sessions with expert speakers for executives, including: "Combining Academics With Workforce Development," by Steven Bialek, chairman of the Milwaukee School of Engineering School of Business; and David Tietyen, director of the MSOE Business Excellence Consortium; "Education in a Flat World: e-Learning on Demand," by Todd Rickel, vice president of eLearning, Herzing Educational System and president of the Herzing University Online Campus; "The Business School of the Future: Anytime, Anywhere, Online," by Janet Olson, assistant dean, and Lois Smith, interim dean, the College of Business & Economics, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater; and "Executive Learning" taught by experts at Carthage College/Loyola University.
