Competition among airlines serving General Mitchell International Airport is heating up, and the benefactors are travelers flying to or from Milwaukee.
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines Inc. announced today one of the largest fare sales in the company's history. Customers can purchase one-way tickets for $30, $60 or $90, based on length of travel. For travel up to 400 miles, fares are $30 one-way. For travel between 400 and 750 miles, fares are $60 one-way. For travel more than 750 miles, fares are $90 one-way. For additional information on the routes, visit www.southwest.com.
"Southwest Airlines realizes customers are looking for great travel deals during this difficult economic time," said Southwest spokesman Kevin Krone. "We wanted to provide customers affordable airfare so they can punch this economy in the nose and travel for business or leisure this fall."
AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc., today launched a sale for travel from Milwaukee to all of the airline's destinations, with fares starting as low as $39.
The AirTran routes selling for $39 each way from Milwaukee include Minneapolis, Minn., Charleston, S.C., Charlotte, N.C., and St. Louis, Mo.
The special AirTran fares are available for purchase through July 9 and are good for travel through Nov. 11. Travelers may purchase the sale fares at www.airtran.com.
Oak Creek-based Midwest Airlines later announced this morning that it would cut its fares to "every destination we fly." Some examples of Midwest's new fares include roundtrip flights from Milwaukee to Minneapolis ($138), Orlando ($158) and Dayton, Des Moines or Louisville ($168).
