The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, announced today it has awarded a contract of $4.04 million to renovate the operating rooms at the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Milwaukee.
The $4.04 million award will be used to renovate a second floor wing of the Department of Veterans Affairs medical center and create a new surgical suite consisting of five sizable operating rooms and a sterile supply core area.
The renovation also upgrades the surgical suite to a state of the art operating room with respect to surgical care, patient flow, infection control, materials flow and support spaces.
"Improving facilities that help the VA maintain their excellent care to veterans is important to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers," said Patrick Kuhne, the project manger of the VA's Detroit District, which will oversee the Milwaukee project. "We are happy to be involved with this project and look forward to continuing the successful partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs."
AH West Group, LLC, a small business in Appleton, was awarded the contract to renovate the wing at the medical center for the Milwaukee VA. The project will generate work for about a dozen of the company's workers, including six new hires, said Bob Stephenson of AH West Group.
The renovation is one of 17 projects at seven VA facilities where the Detroit District will supervise construction in Wisconsin, Michigan or Indiana.
A spokeswoman for the VA said the funding for the Milwaukee project came out of the VA's budget and was not part of the American Restoration and Reinvestment Act.
