Potawatomi Bingo Casino held a random drawing Wednesday to select this year's 16 Miracle on Canal Street charity participants.
The program was held in the Casino's Nest of Life Bingo Hall. The charities that will receive donations are: Adoption Resources of Wisconsin; Bay View Community Center; Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County; Columbia St. Mary's Foundation Smart Smiles Project; the Council on AODA of Washington County; Danceworks Inc.; Express Yourself Milwaukee Inc.; Focus on Community; Independence First Inc.; Kids Matter Inc.; Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee; Skylight Opera Theatre; Spina Bifida Association of Wisconsin Inc.; Volunteer Center of Ozaukee County; YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee; and the Wisconsin Humane Society Promoting Animal Care and Kindness Program.
In addition, to celebrate Miracle on Canal Street's 15th anniversary and the casino's expansion, Running Rebels Community Organization of Milwaukee was chosen as the Casino's first Mega Miracle charity. This charity will receive 20 percent of the total Miracle money raised.
The remaining 80 percent will be shared evenly among the other 16 charities. In 2007, more than $1 million was awarded to the participating charities.
"For the past 15 years, Potawatomi Bingo Casino has been proud to have helped improve the quality of life for our area children," said Mike Goodrich, Potawatomi Bingo Casino general manager. "We owe so much gratitude to our bingo guests, who have made Miracle on Canal Street the great success it has become."
Money for the program is raised though special Miracle bingo games, the casino's annual vendor golf outing/auction and other initiatives. Potawatomi Bingo Casino keeps each year's Miracle total a secret until the program concludes with the 2008 Miracle on Canal Street Awards Program, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 19.
