Julann Jatczak, vice president of the Women's Business Initiative Corp. (WWBIC), a statewide economic development organization with offices in Madison, Kenosha and Milwaukee, is one of 10 people to receive a 2008 U.S. Small Business Administration Champion Award.
The awards were presented recently in Washington, D.C.
Jatczak leads the business education and client development programs for the WWBIC. Since joining the organization in 1996, she has helped build the WWBIC into a powerhouse for women's business development, boasting a staff of 25, more than $2 million in annual lending and an operating budget of over $2 million.
WWBIC is an SBA Women's Business Center and has been the top volume SBA microlender in Wisconsin since 2002.
Jatczak is known for developing and facilitating workshops for micro-businesses, targeting women and low-income individuals. Over the past 11 years, she has delivered more than 550 workshops and speeches to more than 14,500 women.
"The SBA is proud to honor these men and women as true champions of small business, whose tireless efforts have provided tangible and significant support to small businesses and to their communities," said SBA administrator Steve Preston. "They provide the counseling, advice and support that small business owners need, and foster an environment in which the spirit of entrepreneurship can flourish."
