Judge to lead King Day Celebration in Milwaukee

Charles N. Clevert Jr., U.S. District Judge of the Eastern District of Wisconsin, will be the special guest speaker at this year's Milwaukee County King Day Celebration, which will be held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center on Monday, Jan. 21.
This year's celebration will feature a tribute in music, dance and prose. Milwaukee County residents are invited to attend.
Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, County Board Chairman Lee Holloway and County Supervisor Elizabeth Coggs-Jones and other public leaders will attend the celebration in honor of King.
"Reflecting on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King reinforces hope in our community," Walker said. "His efforts to enact change through non-violent means still resonate."
The celebration will also showcase the new building improvements made in 2007 at the King Center that included painting the gym, boxing and weight rooms, a gym floor, auditorium sound and lighting, and multiple new appliances. Marcus Theatres donated new auditorium chairs and Midtown Lowes donated thousands of dollars in supplies and skilled trade hours.
King Center manager Michelle Watts said, "I'm so appreciative that Marcus Theatres and Lowes chose to give to the King Center. I am forever grateful."
The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. at the center, which is located in Milwaukee at 1531 W. Vliet St.
Walker will also give remarks at the 24th annual Martin Luther King celebration at the Marcus Center on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 pm,, and speak at the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee breakfast at 7 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21.
