Partners form new law firm in Waukesha

The law firm of Grady, Hayes & Neary LLC recently formed after its four shareholders and an associate left Waukesha-based The Schroeder Group S.C.
Scott Grady, Lance Grady, Stephen Hayes and Elizabeth Neary formed the new firm, along with litigation associate Daniel Miller at N14 W23777 Stone Ridge Drive in Waukesha.
The law office occupies about 5,500 square feet of the two-story, 98,000-square-foot facility. Hayes said the space will undergo remodeling.
The firm focuses on business and banking law, civil and commercial trials and appeals, adoption, surrogacy and children’s law, municipal law, construction defect litigation, insurance coverage disputes and complex insurance lawsuits.
All of the specialties were previously practiced by one of the attorneys at The Schroeder Group.
"Obviously, it is a firm that is litigation-oriented, but it does have a strong business background," Hayes said.

Quarterly earnings fall for The Marcus Corp.

Milwaukee-based The Marcus Corporation had net earnings of $4.028 million, or 13 cents per diluted share, for the third quarter, down from earnings of $4.723 million, or 15 cents per diluted share, for the third quarter for the previous fiscal year.
However, the company reported net earnings of $27.8 million, or 90 cents per diluted share, for the first three quarters of the fiscal year, up compared to net earnings of $25.3 million, or 66 cents per diluted share, for the first three quarters of the previous fiscal year.
The company's third quarter revenues of $71.418 million were up 3.9 percent compared to revenues of $68.75 million from the third quarter of the previous fiscal year. Revenue from the first three quarters for the fiscal year were $235.43 million, up 6 percent compared to revenues of $222 million from the first three quarters of the previous fiscal year.
"Overall, our results benefited from gains on the sale of additional condominium units at the Platinum Hotel & Spa (in Las Vegas) and a lower tax rate," said Stephen H. Marcus, chairman and chief executive officer of The Marcus Corporation. "These factors offset the lower third quarter operating income, which reflects the impact of pre-opening expenses and start-up losses for several Marcus Hotels and Resorts properties and a weaker film slate for Marcus Theatres, compared to the same quarter a year ago."
For the Marcus Hotels and Resorts division, revenue per available room for comparable properties increased 1.3 percent in the third quarter and 7.1 percent for the first three quarters of the fiscal year, due primarily to increases in the average daily rate. "The third quarter is a traditionally soft winter quarter for travel in the Midwest, and this year was no exception," Marcus said. "However, as the weather improves, we look forward to benefiting from the continuing strong lodging industry environment."
In early May the Marcus Theatres division will open Marcus Majestic Cinema, the company's new flagship theater in Brookfield.
"The Majestic is so much more than a movie theatre," Marcus said. "It's an entertainment destination for the entire area, with traditional movie screens, two of our signature UltraScreens and a multi-use auditorium where we will offer entertainment such as comedy acts, local bands and broadcast concerts. This will also be a perfect location for business meetings and of course, we will show first-run movies. Guests can enjoy great food and cocktails in this special auditorium and in the adjacent lounge, as well as pizza, coffee and ice cream in two Italian-themed cafes. With the latest in amenities and technology, this theatre will take entertainment in our circuit to the next level."
The theatres division struggled in January and February because of a weak slate of movies, Marcus said.
"However, business has increased significantly over the past two weeks, with strong openings of Wild Hogs and 300," he said. "Other films with good box-office potential opening in the next few weeks include TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Blades of Glory and Meet the Robinsons. May could set new records with the openings of three highly anticipated movies - Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. The early summer also appears strong, with the openings of Ocean's Thirteen, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Evan Almighty and Pixar's newest film, Ratatouille, capped with the opening of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in July."

Miller reaches sponsorship agreements with music venues

The Miller Oasis at Summerfest isn't the only music venue sponsored by Milwaukee-based Miller Brewing Company. The company announced that it has reached exclusive sponsorship agreements with four music venues in other parts of the country.
The renewed sponsorships are with the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J.; the Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh, N.C.; the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa; and the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Chicago.
"Few things evoke passion and energy in our consumer the way music does," said Jackie Woodward, Miller's vice president of media and marketing services. "Now more than ever, these consumers define themselves by their interests, and so many of them are passionate about their music choices. Through these venue sponsorships, Miller can play an important role in bringing to life this passion for music. We'll work closely with each of these venues to make the live music experience even better for fans in each market."
Miller Lite will be the primary brand sponsoring live music at the PNC Bank Arts Center, Walnut Creek Amphitheater and Ford Amphitheatre.
