Daylight Savings Time: Much ado about not so much

With the exception of a hiccup in the Microsoft Outlook Express e-mail program, early Daylight Savings Time came without a hitch over the weekend.
"The worst thing that could happen is that (the calendar is) an hour off," said Lori Stafford, a spokeswoman for Brookfield-based Fiserv Inc., the world's largest provider of IT solutions to the financial services industry.
Outlook is experiencing just that, which in turn is trickling down into personal digital assistants (PDAs) and other mobile devices.
A source at Milwaukee-based Foley & Lardner LLP's information technology (IT) assistance center said the law firm is concerned that attorneys might be late for appointments today because the correct time is not being displayed when glancing at Outlook's calendar, and meeting reminders aren't being generated.
"I definitely think it is an issue, because I look at my calendar, and it is all wrong," said the source, who asked not be identified for this report. "But it's like, what can you do about it?"
The operators of some older operating systems simply had to manually adjust their computers' clocks this morning.
