Manpower Inc. and the Milwaukee branch of the NAACP announced plans for a program designed to provide free adult computer and business administration skills training to the community.

"The objective of the program is to provide an academic as well as a comfortable learning environment for students of all ages," said Jerry Ann Hamilton, president of the Milwaukee NAACP branch. "Manpower's online university, the Global Learning Center, is an effective tool that can bridge the gap between education and employment in the minority community."

The Global Learning Center offers more than 5,000 hours of online training that encompasses software applications, professional development skills, business skills, information technology and telecommunications.

"We are very excited about this partnership with the NAACP. We feel that Manpower can play a significant role in developing the skills and employability of the community," said Melanie Holmes, vice president of corporate affairs in North America for Manpower. "Manpower is committed to sharing its resources with the Milwaukee community to provide all individuals with the knowledge and resources needed for the contemporary world of work."

Hamilton noted that the program will be open to individuals of all ages, but will specifically target young adults already employed and high school graduates who would like to continue to learn new skills while they consider other options. Classes will also be offered to older adults who are computer novices or are interested in upgrading their present skills.

On-site instructors will work closely with the trainees to ensure successful completion of the training.

The classes will be conducted Monday through Thursday at the Milwaukee branch of the NAACP, 2745 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, Suite 203. Additional information is available by contacting Allen Davis of the NAACP at (414) 562-1000.
