Bustos Media LLC planned to flip the switch on its new Milwaukee Hispanic television station today at noon. The West Allis office of the Sacramento, Calif.-based company will introduce Azteca America to southeastern Wisconsin on local Channel 38.
Azteca America is the second-largest broadcast company in Mexico, Rick Kartz, local sales manager for Bustos Media said. The new station's programming will include sporting events, entertainment and news. The television station also will provide several Spanish-speaking community programs that are currently in development, including a local news program, Kartz said.
"We are very excited," Kartz said. "There is a big need for more programming in this market."
Currently, the only Hispanic television station in the Milwaukee area that offers local services is Telemundo, Kartz said.
Bustos Media also owns and operates the La GranD Hispanic radio station network. Locally, La GranD is on FM 104.7.
Bustos Media recently moved into a new office at the former Time Warner Cable production facility, located at 1138 S. 108th St. in West Allis, where all of the local programming will take place.
The building will provide room for growth, Kartz said. Bustos Media plans to join a cable network in the next six months to a year.
"It will be very exciting for the community in general," Kartz said. "We are going to bring a lot of different things, and Channel 38 will open a lot of avenues for community communication and highlighting local events."
