Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful will host a free computer recycling event on Saturday, Nov. 18, to give local residents an opportunity to properly dispose of outdated or unwanted computer equipment.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wisconsin State Fair Park. Volunteers taking the equipment will be located in the north lot on the gravel. Monetary donations will be accepted for Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful.
Joe Wilson, executive director of the agency, said computers typically contain five to eight pounds of lead. In addition, computers may also contain silver, cadmium, mercury, selenium and chromium.
Items accepted for recycling at the event will include: cell phones, computer speakers, external floppy/hard drives, CPUs, LCD displays, monitors, keyboards, mice, laptop computers and other accessories.
However, the event cannot accept batteries, household appliances, cracked or broken monitors, large floor-standing copiers, hazardous materials, projection televisions, UPS systems with lead acid batteries, wood console televisions, wood speakers, DVD players, printers, desktop copiers or CRT or LCD televisions.
