SC Johnson launches website in Spanish to promote transparency
Racine-based S.C. Johnson & Son Inc., has launched a Spanish-language website in order to provide full ingredient information to its Spanish-speaking consumers in the U.S. The company has created a Spanish-language version of its ingredient website, www.WhatsInsideSCJohnson.com.
"Families want to know what's in the products they use in their homes," said chairman and chief executive officer Fisk Johnson. "By making that information accessible to Spanish-speaking consumers, too, we're helping even more families understand that they can trust our products and our company."
The site offers information about the ingredients in S.C. Johnson products. The information is also available via the company's toll-free number (1-800-558-5252) for Spanish-language phone support. The company also now provides Spanish content on its rightathome.com website, and is working with notable Hispanic influencers and experts as guest bloggers to continue the Spanish-language dialogue online.
"We applaud SC Johnson for being the first company to make their ingredient information available to the nation's Spanish-speaking consumers who want and need it," said Erin Switalski, executive director of Women's Voices for the Earth, a national environmental health organization. "Making this vital information available in Spanish demonstrates their commitment to ingredient disclosure."
UW-Whitewater to host social media conference on privacy and transparency
On Tuesday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m., industry professionals will host “What Happens in Vegas stays on Facebook,” in Winther Hall, Room 2001, at the UW-Whitewater campus.
The discussion will be led by Katie Felton, president of MKELive, and Emily Lenard, associate director, of Wired Wisconsin.
They will discuss how to avoid pitfalls on Facebook that could affect individuals when they are searching for employment or preservation of a person’s reputation in general.
“(Wired Wisconsin is) really dedicated to advancing policies and really educating people on technology issues that effect businesses,” Lenard said. “This presentation mimicks a similar presentation I did that really gets students thinking about the fact that not only what they do but also what their friends do on social media sites reflects on their images and it’s really about encouraging everyone to be mindful.”
According to Lenard, the seminar will discuss from a student standpoint what future employers will be able to see, but will also address how the way we communicate from an academic and a professional standpoint has changed.
“Ideally we’d like to get people thinking, and teach them about the tools out there for them and their employers to monitor their public perception,” Lenard said. “We always want them to be keeping an eye to the future, and what their actions now could mean in regards to that.”
Online perceptions make up a huge portion of who somebody is these days, Lenard said.
“It’s that online perception that almost always makes the first impression on people and we want to make sure that an individual’s online perception really matches up to who they really are,” she said.
The seminar is free and open to the public. Anyone currently looking for a job or working for a professional organization is encouraged to attend. The discussion will dispel rumors about privacy settings, and pay services for transparency in social media.

Diez honored with Postal Service Award
Mary Diez, Ph.D., dean of graduate studies at Alverno College in Milwaukee has been named a recipient of the 2010 United States Postal Service award, “Women Putting Their Stamp on Metro Milwaukee,” for her outstanding achievements in the field of education.
For the past 20 years, Diez has played a lead role in securing and directing more than $3.36 million in various grants from local and national foundations to support administrator and teacher development and student assessment programs in Milwaukee-area schools, primarily Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS). In October 2009, Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education singled out Alverno for excelling in its job to prepare teachers during his highly critical speech on the state of education.
