Dealers sold 43,405 new Harley-Davidson motorcycles during the quarter.
However, revenue from the sale of motorcycles and related products dipped in the quarter from $1.027 million in the fourth quarter of 2011 to $1.01 million in the fourth quarter of 2012.
The company reported net income from continuing operations of $70.6 million for the quarter, up from $54.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2011. In the fourth quarter of 2011 the company had earnings of $51 million from discontinued operations.

The company said it plans to ship 259,000 to 264,000 motorcycles to dealers and distributors worldwide in 2013, a 4.5 to 6.5 percent increase from 2012. The company plans to ship 71,000 to 76,000 motorcycles in the first quarter of 2013, an increase of 10 to 18 percent.
