A construction launch ceremony will be held on Monday, Aug. 13, to celebrate the start of construction for the Global Water Center, the research and business development facility that is being developed by the Milwaukee Water Council in the city's Walker's Point neighborhood.

The $20 million project will transform a 106-year-old, seven-story warehouse at 223 W. Pittsburgh Ave.
The Global Water Center will house water-related research facilities for universities, existing water-related companies and accelerator space for new emerging water-related companies.
The Milwaukee Water Council's offices will be located in the building. Other tenants will include Badger Meter Inc., A.O. Smith, Grundfos Pumps Corp. and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences.
In addition to office and research space, features of the Global Water Center will include: a 50 person lecture hall, exhibition space for new prototypes and a water flow lab.
