Windhover Center for the Arts is growing, and in a big way, the Fond du Lac Arts Council announced Thursday.
The council unveiled a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation project that will entail tearing down the building next door, 45 Sheboygan St. The Windhover Center is located at 51 Sheboygan St.
Construction could start in late summer or early fall with a tentative grand unveiling in fall 2013, said designer Tom Meiklejohn.
Windhover Center purchased 45 Sheboygan St. on June 27, Miller said. The project calls for creating additional indoor and outdoor space for art displays and live entertainment. The Windhover’s current Great Hall will be expanded with better acoustics and staging for performers. The bar area next to the Great Hall will be removed, and a larger bar will be built in a different part of the building.
Plans include adding a revolving door entryway, expanding restroom facilities, building a two-story glass-enclosed space and creating space for offices, storage and classrooms.
When it’s finished, the Windhover Center will grow from 19,400 square feet to 37,200 square feet, said Kevin Miller, executive director of the Windhover Center.
