Medical College of Wisconsin trustees meet today to consider a statewide expansion plan that could mean a new presence in Green Bay.
City officials have worked hard to land one of the new regional campuses, and college administrators have voiced enthusiasm for starting their expansion in that area. In April, Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt declared the city a "front-runner" for the campus development.
The Medical College, based in Wauwatosa, is seeking new campus locations to raise its profile and find new hospitals and other clinical partners where students can get hands-on training.
The regional campuses, each representing an $11 million investment, would include facilities about 5,000 square feet in size at the outset and could be expanded to include more educational and research activities.
The board of trustees today will discuss the first two possible locations for expansion. Other sites that have been mentioned include Marshfield, Wausau, Kenosha, Janesville and Beloit.
One area that has been ruled out is the Fox Cities. But that doesn't mean it's out of the running for future expansion, said Dr. John Raymond, college president and CEO.
