Recall voter turnout is brisk

  
The political battleground that is Wisconsin will finally culminate with its unprecedented gubernatorial recall election tonight.

With the national political spotlight shining directly on Wisconsin, Republican Gov. Scott Walker is being challenged by Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.
Republican Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch is being challenged by Democratic firefighter Mahlon Mitchell.
Four Republican state senators also face recalls.
Early indications pointed to strong voter turnouts with long lines at the polls this morning. The Government Accountability Board is projecting a turnout of as much as 65 percent of eligible voters.
Watchdogs from both conservative and liberal groups are on the lookout for any improper behavior at the polls. The City of Milwaukee’s election hotline is (414) 286-VOTE (8683).
Both sides also are preparing for the possibility of a recount in a close race.
The polls will remain open until 8 p.m.
