Walker official says feds confirm job growth number

Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development spokesman John Dipko today said the 2011 state job growth numbers recently touted by Gov. Scott Walker have been verified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Dipko told BizTimes that the BLS has confirmed that Wisconsin gained 23,608 jobs in 2011, contradicting earlier projections that the state had lost jobs.
Walker released the preliminary numbers to defend his claims that his reforms are working for the state.
Walker’s Democratic opponent in Tuesday's recall, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, had accused Walker of "cooking the books" by releasing unverified numbers.
Walker and Barrett will square off in a second and final debate on Thursday night in Milwaukee.
Voters will decide in the recall election on Tuesday, June 5.
