OSHKOSH – Room tax revenue up despite loss of rooms

  
The Oshkosh area lost 329 hotel rooms between 2004 and 2011, abandoned efforts to attract conventions and coped with a recession that hit tourism spending hard.

Despite those setbacks, room tax revenues increased from $985,936 in 2007 to $1.2 million in 2011, a 23 percent increase during the five-year span. Tourism's $200 million economic impact on Winnebago County in 2011 remains below the $233 million it generated locally in 2005, but represents an increase over recent years.
