A battle may be brewing between the city and Kwik Trip, which wants a tax incremental financing district to help the company with a major expansion.
The company plans to add 65,000 square feet to its dairy facility at Oak and Rublee streets, plus add new production lines and equipment for a total estimated project cost of $31.9 million. The company also hopes to build a new freezer addition for baked products. Kwik Trip officials want part of that project to be paid through a “reverse” tax incremental financing district arrangement. However, Mayor Matt Harter, who is also chairman of the Executive Committee that could help negotiate the deal, said Wednesday he opposes the idea of providing tax funding for a private project.
