CHIPPEWA FALLS - Ribbon-cutting celebrates new rail terminal

Gov. Scott Walker cut the ribbon at the Canadian National Railway intermodal rail terminal on West River Street in Chippewa Falls. The Chippewa Falls terminal, which has already been in use for a couple of months, is used for rail shipments from all over the country as well as from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. CN Assistant Vice President Peter Ladouceur said the merchandise coming in can be unloaded for trucking around Wisconsin and Minnesota. The empty containers are then loaded in Chippewa Falls with grain and other crops and then sent back out. According to Ladouceur, there is a demand for the region’s agricultural products in Asian markets. The more-direct rail traffic from the Chippewa Falls hub will help streamline shipments. Walker noted that Wisconsin is unique in having access to the Mississippi River as well as two Great Lakes, making the state very accessible for shipping.
