SUPERIOR - Exodus machines fill Caterpillar product gap

By Daniel Burkwald

Exodus Machine Inc. in Superior builds a class of material handling machine Caterpillar doesn’t have. Caterpillar has a distribution and service system that can get the machines to customers. Those two realities prompted the two companies to form an alliance to benefit both. “It was pretty obvious that Exodus had a product and we have a product gap,” said Bill Springer, Caterpillar vice president who leads the company’s Diversified Products Division. "They have the product we don’t have; we have the distribution system that they didn’t have.” Springer said while Caterpillar isn’t the market leader when it comes to wheeled material handlers the company’s goal is to become a market leader as quickly as it can through its alliance with Exodus. And meeting that goal means expanding Exodus’ manufacturing facility in Superior and creating 300 new jobs over the next several years, company officials announced last week.
