Bucyrus International Inc. announced it has acquired the former Midwest Airlines Corporate Center in Oak Creek at 6744 S. Howell Ave.
Bucyrus, a manufacturer of mining equipment, will move its corporate headquarters from South Milwaukee to the Oak Creek site, which it purchased from Westminster Badger LLC.
Due to continued growth of the company, senior management and other personnel will move to Oak Creek to make roof for additional employees at the South Milwaukee production plant.
The 27-acre Oak Creek campus contains two office buildings totaling 120,833 square feet.
"With the recent acquisition of the mining division of Terex Corp., our employee base has increased and we need more space to accommodate the growth that will take place in coming years," said Tim Sullivan, president and chief executive officer of Bucyrus.
With the acquisition of Terex, Bucyrus plans to create about 700 new jobs over the next two to three years.
Bucyrus currently has 10,000 employees at 100 locations around the world.
"We've got a lot of opportunity to export our equipment from South Milwaukee to developing markets around the world. We're still one of the fastest-growing companies I the United Sates, and we are proud to be able to provide good-paying job opportunities in this particular economy," Sullivan said.
Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings Inc. acquired Midwest Airlines last year and closed the Oak Creek headquarters.
