Schlitz officially launches the ‘Tall Boy’

By Jim Butman

Schlitz Brewing Co. is again stepping back in time by reintroducing the "Tall Boy" 16-ounce cans of Schlitz to the Milwaukee market.

In the spring 2008, Schlitz brought back its Classic 1960s Formula to Milwaukee. Schlitz has since regained a loyal and growing Milwaukee fan base.

Schlitz was the first brewer to introduce the Tall Boy can in 1960 when it was the most popular brew in the world.

"The rebirth of Schlitz Gusto has always been about more than just taste. It's about celebrating a time when life and beer wasn't watered down," said Kyle Wortham, senior brand manager for Schlitz, which is a division of the Pabst Brewing Co. "Our drinkers love the Schlitz Classic 60s Formula out of the bottle and on draft and going back to the Tall Boy cans just seemed natural. Plus, I think our drinkers will get a kick out of the can graphics that even include the original Tall Boy script. The new 16-ounce Tall Boy can is the perfect package to take with you on the golf course, an afternoon cruise on the lake or to get a few more drinks before you flip the burgers."
