Columbia St. Mary's announced the appointment of Bruce McCarthy, M.D., to the new position of executive vice president of Columbia St. Mary's Inc. and president of Columbia St. Mary's Physician Division.
In his new role, McCarthy will serve as the senior physician executive with direct line responsibility for Columbia St. Mary's Community Physicians (CSMCP) and Madison Medical Affiliates (MMA). CSMCP and MMA consist of more than 200 physicians within primary care and multi-specialty practices located throughout Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Sheboygan counties.
In addition, McCarthy will serve in a leadership capacity at Ascension Health, helping the national system develop and implement innovative approaches to physician-hospital integration. McCarthy will join Columbia St. Mary's on May 1.
He joins Columbia St. Mary's from Allina Medical Clinic in Minneapolis, where he served as chief medical officer. Prior to that, he held several positions at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Mich.
"I'm delighted that we've been able to attract someone of Dr. McCarthy's caliber to lead our physician division," said Leo Brideau, president and chief executive officer of Columbia St. Mary's. "He is a nationally respected physician leader with an enviable track record of leading innovation and improvement in patient care. His ‘patients first' approach is completely consistent with Columbia St. Mary's philosophy."
"After meeting many physicians, other leaders, and staff I have been impressed with Columbia St. Mary's dedication to providing the best patient care possible," McCarthy said. "That is exactly what drives me and I am very excited to join the Columbia St. Mary's team."
