Report: MillerCoors narrows search to Chicago and Dallas

By Jim Butman

MillerCoors LLC has narrowed its search for its new corporate headquarters to either downtown Chicago or the Dallas area, according to a news report today.

MillerCoors, a joint venture of SABMiller PLC and Molson Coors Brewing Co., is close to making its decision, according to ChicagoRealEstateDaily.com, an online news portal operated by Crain's Chicago Business.

The brewing company was formed July 1 when SABMiller and Molson Coors merged their U.S. operations.

Executives of the combined company previously said they were likely to seek a neutral city for the new headquarters, eschewing Milwaukee, which is the home of Miller Brewing Co., and Golden, Colo., which is the home of Coors.

Crain's cited sources saying that MillerCoors has been looking for 100,000 to 150,000 square feet and could employ as many as 400 people at the new headquarters.

According to Crain's, MillerCoors has identified three sites in Chicago as a possible home for the headquarters: 350 N. Orleans St., which also is home to the Chicago Sun Times; the landmark former Carson Pirie Scott & Co. building at 33 S. State St. (renamed the Sullivan Center); and 250 S. Wacker Drive, which is managed by CB Richard Ellis Inc.,

Crain's said MillerCoors is being advised in its property search by Dallas-based tenant representative Staubach Co.
