Signup begins today for cell phone 'Do Not Call' list

By Jim Butman

Wisconsin consumers will be able to sign up their cell phone numbers to be added to the state's "Do Not Call" list, starting today.

The new list will be sent to telemarketers on Sept. 1. To make that list, consumers must sign up before the end of August.

"The addition of cell phones to the list makes Wisconsin's 'Do Not Call' law even stronger. This highly popular, successful state program does not cost taxpayers and is a great example of where a state program helps people. I continue to be proud to have been a part of this programs creation and improvement," said state Sen. Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton).

Consumers must renew their registration on the list every two years.

"More and more people are moving to one phone, their cell phone, for all telecommunications services. Telemarketers followed that move, and it is more than time to add cell numbers to the 'Do Not Call' law. I will continue to pursue adding additional fines to give the law stronger enforcement," Erpenbach said.

Consumers can register online to be on the list at https://nocall.wisconsin.gov/web/home.asp or by calling 1-866-9NO-CALL (1-866-966-2255).
