AT&T Inc. today announced a total planned investment of more than $20 million in its Wisconsin wireless network in 2008.

The new allotment will bring AT&T's three-year planned wireless investment in Wisconsin to nearly $200 million.

As part of the 2008 wireless network investment, AT&T is continuing network improvements for consumers and businesses by adding nearly 16 new cell sites in communities throughout the state, including Appleton, Eau Claire, Green Bay, Madison, Milwaukee and Wausau.

"These major investments in Wisconsin further AT&T's strong commitment to our state's residents and businesses," said Scott VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin. "These enhancements to our network will help people connect to their world everywhere they live and work."

AT&T is expanding its wireless third-generation (3G) network this year by more than 80 additional cities, bringing AT&T's 3G wireless services to nearly 350 U.S. markets. AT&T has already deployed 3G service in Milwaukee and Madison.

Terry Stenzel,  AT&T's vice president/general manager for wireless operations in Illinois and Wisconsin. Said, "We've introduced 3G service in Madison and plan to expand our footprint to the north and south of Milwaukee later this year."

AT&T's 3G service offers customers access to broadband-like speeds for their laptops, with the ability to access the Internet and work with e-mail from anywhere within the 3G network.
