Sandra Day O'Connor, the first female justice to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, will be the keynote speaker at the Milwaukee Bar Association's 150th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon on Wednesday, May 7, at the Midwest Airlines Center.
O'Connor's keynote address will follow introductory remarks by Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
"The Milwaukee Bar Association is honored to welcome Justice O'Connor, to celebrate the MBA's 150 years of service in the greater Milwaukee community," said David Westrup, president of the Milwaukee Bar Association. "Justice O'Connor is a key figure in the history of modern U.S. law with storied contributions to current American jurisprudence. She is a source of inspiration to most lawyers I know and motivated many of us to take up the law as a profession."
The luncheon will be part of a week-long celebration of the 50th Annual Law Day Education Program, which celebrates the national dedication to the principle of government under the law.
O'Connor, who retired in 2006, was appointed to the Supreme Court by former President Ronald Reagan in 1981.
