General Electric Corp. chief executive officer Jeffrey Immelt is the latest target of Fox News host Bill O'Reilly's in-your-face confrontations.
Immelt, who is the former CEO of G.E. Medical Systems, now GE Healthcare, in Waukesha, was attending a lunch in a New York restaurant last week, when he was confronted by Jesse Watters, producer of O'Reilly's "The Factor" television show. O'Reilly is accusing General Electric of doing business with Iran and the family of Osama Bin Laden.
According to O'Reilly's "Talking Points" memo, Watters stuck a microphone in Immelt's face and insisted, "Mr. Immelt, Jesse with FOX News. We would like to talk to you about your involvement with Iran. Are you still trading with Iran while Iranians are killing Americans in Iraq? You're not selling them airplane parts that can be used for military equipment?"
Immelt did not comment, and Watters was removed from the restaurant.
General Electric is the parent company of NBC and MSNBC. O'Reilly is engaged in a nightly cable television jousting of words with Keith Olbermann, host of MSNBC's "Countdown."
O'Reilly had a confrontation in the previous week with a security staff member of Democratic candidate Barack Obama at a political rally in New Hampshire. In the video of the confrontation, O'Reilly and a camera operator were attempting to get Obama's attention, when the Obama aide steps in between them. O'Reilly uttered an obscenity and shoved the Obama staff member, and they were then flanked by Secret Service agents. O'Reilly previously had confronted Democrat Hillary Clinton at a campaign rally.
