Beloit to open new center to promote city

By Jim Butman

After several years of discussion and several months of construction, Beloit 2020 will unveil the Vision Beloit center on Tuesday Jan. 8, in a 10:00 a.m. ceremony that will include remarks from Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle and Wisconsin Secretary of Commerce Jack Fischer.

Vision Beloit is located in the City Center Building at 500 Public Ave.

The center is designed to be the showroom for ideas for the development of a greater Beloit. At the core of Vision Beloit is the Beloit 2020 plan for Beloit's City Center. The plan sets an agenda to develop Beloit's City Center as the confluence of ideas, markets and cultural activities for the greater Beloit region.

The plan, approved by both the City of Beloit and the City of South Beloit, is brought to life in Vision Beloit through exhibits.

The high-tech tools and exhibits in the space give visitors and investors in Beloit a sense of the opportunities in the City Center and in Greater Beloit. The space will function as a marketing tool for the four organizations with offices connected to Vision Beloit: Visit Beloit, the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Beloit Association and the Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation.

The development of Vision Beloit was a joint effort led by Jim Fisher, president of Beloit 2020.
