Summerfest exhibit opens at Eisner Museum

By Jim Butman

A new exhibit, "40 Years of Summerfest," opened today at The Eisner American Museum of Advertising and Design.

The exhibit will be on display through September 30 at the museum, located at 208 N. Water St. in Milwaukee's historic Third Ward.

A grand opening party will take place today from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The cost is $5 for members of the museum and students and $10 for non-members.

The exhibit focuses on the history of Summerfest's advertising and communications, and includes examples of marketing communications throughout the years, such as brochures and print advertisements.  The exhibit also includes a timeline, photographs, posters and merchandise related to Milwaukee's grandest of festivals.

"Summerfest is an icon in our community, and many great local advertising agencies have had the opportunity to contribute to the event's advertising and communication campaigns over the years," said Cori Coffman, executive director of the Eisner. "In conjunction with Summerfest's 40th anniversary celebration this year, it made sense to highlight and recognize the evolution of the advertising behind the event and celebrate the creativity that local agencies have contributed to marketing Milwaukee's cornerstone summer celebration."

A portion of the exhibit also be on display during Summerfest in the Columbia St. Mary's Cool Down Lounge, which is located near the south end of the grounds on the south side of the Water Street Brewery building.

The Eisner is an interactive educational center focusing on advertising and design, and their cultural impact.
