Heinemann's to close and re-emerge in new building

By Jim Butman

Brickman Inc. plans to demolish three buildings at 2717, 2747 and 2767 North Mayfair Road in Wauwatosa and build three new commercial buildings in their place.

The three existing buildings on the properties, which total about four acres, will be demolished. Those buildings include a Heinemann's restaurant, which is expected to re-emerge in one of the new buildings, said Robert Harris of the Wauwatosa Department of Community Development. Heinemann's has eight locations in the Milwaukee area.

Brickman plans to build a 17,150-square-foot, a 24,040-square-foot and an 8,475-square-foot building in the development. The buildings will be occupied by office, retail and restaurant tenants.

The Brickman project is the latest in a growing number of redevelopment projects on Mayfair Road.

Last year, three small office buildings were demolished and replaced with a new Best Buy store at 2401 N. Mayfair Road.

Milwaukee Radio Alliance LLC plans to move the studios and business offices for 102.1 FM WLUM, an alternative rock station, and for 93.3 FM WJZI, a jazz station, from 2979 N. Mayfair Road in Wauwatosa to Menomonee Falls. The radio stations are leaving Wauwatosa because AP Properties LLC and Pewaukee-based VJS Development Group plan to combine the properties at 2979 and 3005 N. Mayfair Road to create a 2.5-acre site where they plan to build a three-story, 17,700-square-foot medical office building. The 8,800-square-foot building currently used by the two stations will be demolished as part of that project.
