Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will open the city's first "green streets" in the new Josey Heights subdivision on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11:30 a.m.
The event will take place at the intersection of 13th and Harmon streets, within Milwaukee's first "green" subdivision, Josey Heights.
Josey Heights is a new central city subdivision that, when completed, will add 53 new market-rate homes to a 7.3-acre stretch of vacant land.
Josey Heights is being designed so that 100 percent of the stormwater runoff will be absorbed on-site. The Josey Heights stormwater system of rain gardens, bioswales and green streets will reduce storm flows to the sewer systems by 100,000 gallons during large storms. In addition, the Josey Heights stormwater system will reduce the stormwater that has to be treated at the wastewater treatment plan by nearly 1 million gallons per year.
