Commonwealth Development Corp. held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning to mark the start of construction for a $4.7 million retail and residential development for a vacant lot at the northwest corner of Fond du Lac Avenue and West Center Street.
The three-story building, called Fond du Lac Center, will have 24 apartments and 2,500 square feet of retail space. The project received federal tax credits for providing affordable housing.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Commonwealth presented a $20,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee to fund water safety programs.
