Local stocks open with a surge

The BizTimes Stock Index concluded a gloomy week by closing down .66 points Friday at 155.06, but local stocks began the new week on a positive note in early morning trading today. Local stocks were led by Oilgear Co., which surged $3.98 to trade at $14.76 per share on the announcement that the company will be acquired (see story above). The other top local gainers this morning were Harley-Davidson Inc. (up 90 cents to $58.66) and Kohl's Corp. (up 81 cents to $61.11). The largest local decliners this morning were Koss Corp. (down 63 cents to $22.53) and Strattec Security Corp. (down 39 cents to $46.63). The BizTimes Stock Index was created by Small Business Times and is monitored by North Shore Bank.
