The plans to renovate and redesign the Avalon Theatre in Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood will be unveiled later this month. Avalon owner Lee Barczak of Avalon Society LLC will share his plans with the community on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the theater, which is located at 2469 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. on Milwaukee's south side. "The Avalon Theatre will be reborn and will truly be a dynamic asset for Bay View and for the City of Milwaukee," said Milwaukee Alderman Tony Zielinski. Zielinski said Barczak has been soliciting input about the future of the Avalon property from residents in the Bay View community. The Milwaukee Common Council has approved a $75,000 grant to be used to defray remodeling costs at the theater. Barczak has said he is considering an art house movie facility that would feature food and beverages, including wine and beer. The 1,200-seat theater, built in 1929, has been closed for more than five years.
