2nd Annual Escuela Verde Green Tie Gala

Description: 2nd Annual Escuela Verde Green Tie Gala

The Green Tie Gala is an annual fundraising event for Escuela Verde. Escuela Verde is a public charter school supported by TransCenter for Youth that serves students in 7-12th grade. Our mission is to cultivate a community that is participatory, just, sustainable, and peaceful, and we do this by offering students a chance to learn through a project-based, student-led model focused on environmental justice and sustainability.

The primary goal of the Annual Green Tie Gala is to raise funds to support the mission of Escuela Verde. Help us build a strong community and allow us to continue offering transformative learning experiences to Milwaukee youth.

Please join Wisconsin's Department of Workforce Development Secretary, Reggie Newson, for a presentation and discussion on the changes the DWD has made over the last few years. He will explain the benefits of their transition to a talent development agency, as well as his vision of the future and how it can help grow our Wisconsin workforce and the economy.

As part of this discussion, Sec. Newson will address Wisconsin’s Fast Forward initiative and how employers can access the $15 million in grants to support employer-led worker training.

Feast for the Senses

The Feast for the Senses event was founded by a group of dedicated mothers to honor our smallest treasures, the visually impaired children who have received services through our children’s program, and to ensure that future services will always be available.

This year’s event will highlight the personal experiences and testaments to Vision Forward’s mission with a heartfelt video presentation, featuring Ian and other children who are currently receiving services. All money raised from this event will be used to support the mission of empowering, educating and enhancing the lives of individuals impacted by vision loss.

At Vision Forward, we provide the opportunities necessary to help children reach their full potential. We teach parents ways to support their child, encourage self-reliance and foster strength so that children who are blind and visually impaired can achieve the same success as their sighted peers.

Greenfield Concert Band Spring Concert

Description: Join us for a musical celebration of America at our annual spring concert on May 8th at 7pm at Whitnall High School, 5000 S. 116th St. in Greenfield.

The evening will feature patriotic standards and unique arrangements commemorating our country. A basket raffle featuring gifts, tickets and treats from Greenfield area businesses will also take place before and after the concert.

As always, admission to our performance is free! Raffle tickets will be $2 a piece, or 6 for $10. Donations will also be accepted at the door.

Working With HUD and other Federal and Local Agencies

In 2013 more than $83 million in Federal contracts went to small businesses; the previous year, more than 5000 small disadvantaged businesses got $825 million in housing construction contracts with the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Now, five Federal agencies—the Small Business Administration, HUD, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the General Services Administration, and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs—along with the City of Milwaukee and its Housing Authority, Milwaukee County, the City of Wauwatosa and the City of West Allis are paving the way to contracting opportunities for small construction trade firms, particularly those in the Milwaukee area. The Wisconsin Procurement Institute, which educates businesses statewide about contracting, will also be participating.

My Kidneys Run/Walk

Description: My Kidneys Run/Walk promotes awareness of kidney disease and organ donation, providing a chance for the kidney community to come together. The event is managed by Next Level Sports and features a 5K run/walk and 1 mile untimed walk. My Kidneys takes place on a flat, paved trail in Root River Parkway South on a spring morning where you may even pass turkeys or a fox along the way!
