Search committee will find finalists for UWM chancellor job

Cross appointed 14 UW-Milwaukee faculty members, two academic staff members, two classified staff members and two students. They will be joined by two administrators and five community representatives. Dr. Mark Schwartz, a distinguished professor in UWM’s Geography Department, will chair the committee.

The community members who will serve on the committee include: Michele Bria, CEO, Journey House; David Lubar, president and CEO, Lubar & Co.; José Olivieri, partner, Michael Best & Friedrich LLP; Paula Penebaker, president and CEO, YWCA of Southeast Wisconsin; and Edward Zore, board of trustees, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. Inc.

Following a national search and an intensive screening process, the committee is expected to recommend no fewer than five candidates as finalists for consideration by the UW System president and a special Board of Regents committee, chaired by Regent President Michael Falbo of Hartland. Other members of the committee include Regent José Delgado (Brookfield), Regent Margaret Farrow (Pewaukee), Regent Eve Hall (Milwaukee) and Regent Charles Pruitt (Milwaukee).

After a series of public presentations and personal interviews, the UW System president and the Regent committee will recommend one individual to the full board, which must approve the appointment.

The UW System aims to announce a new chancellor by early 2015.

The campus search committee will convene for the first time at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 8, in Room 240 of the UWM Union.

Mark Mone, a professor of management within the UWM Lubar School of Business and the chancellor’s designee for strategic planning and campus climate, will serve as interim chancellor beginning shortly after the university’s commencement on May 18.
